Experimental Observation on the Influence of Absorbable Gelatin sponge upon the Osteogenesis

Abstract
|
|
|
For the observation of the obsteogenesis, a method to implant absorbable gelatin sponge was applied on the rabbit tibia as following.
A bony defect in regular size was made surgically on the tibia, and a piece of absorbable gelatin sponge was inserted into the defected cavity. In- the other Cases, the sponge including small bone chips or bone powder or calcium hydroxide was inserted too. After the operation, x-ray examinations were done with regular intervals.
1. When the sponge was implanted, most of the defected area was filled with new bone abut 90 days after the operation.
2. When the sponge including small bone chips or bone powder was implanted, the osteogenesis was mildly decreased than the sponge was implanted only.
3. When the sponge including calcium hydroxide was implanted, the defected area was filled with new bone as well as when the sponge was implanted only. But the new bone was spongious and hypertrophic.
